The Dancer behind DTLS
Lauren MacKinnon
Studio Director, Dance Teacher & Choreographer
Bachelor of Arts - Media
Master of Teaching (Drama & Dance)

I’m the Founder and Studio Director of Dancing Through Life Studios - a certified Dance Teacher with a background in Media and Marketing, dedicated to helping adults rediscover their love of dance while improving their physical and mental wellbeing.
After ten years of teaching dance to children - it was time for me to focus on my bigger passion which has always been choreography and musical theatre. In 2013, I auditioned for Grease in the Ensemble with an amateur theatre company, thinking it was going to be a ‘one off’ performance - fast forward to 2025 and I have performed in and choreographed over twenty shows!
Dancing Through Life Studios was initially created as a dance studio for musical theatre performers to have a local studio to attend where they could brush up on their technique before auditions or to maintain their skills in-between shows.
However as the studio began to grow I was surprised at the number of adults who were just like me. Adults who wanted a dance studio that was dedicated just to adults, that was close to home, that was non-competitive, that had a fun social environment, and where performances were non-compulsory.
When I reflect on my life - through my school years, to my uni life and working career - dance has always been my constant. Not only has it been my main source of physical exercise but it’s my happy place where I could be free to truly express myself. It’s unfortunate that as adults we often neglect the hobbies that we once loved as a child. My hope was to create a studio that allowed adults to reignite their love of dance.
After seven years, Dancing Through Life Studios has become so much more than I ever imagined. It has grown into a vibrant community of adult dancers from all walks of life - who come together to learn, connect, get fit, and simply enjoy dance.
Thank you to every member of our DTLS family for making this studio more than a place to dance. You have helped create a welcoming, non-judgemental, safe space where adults can rediscover their love of movement, creativity, and self-expression.
May we keep on encouraging, inspiring and empowering each other and most importantly - may we keep on dancing through life.
“Nothing matters, but knowing nothing matters. It’s just life, so keep dancing through."
